Your social media marketing audience is different, treat them accordingly.
February 14, 2008 · Social Media Marketing
Understanding and communicating with your social media marketing audience is one of the most important things you will need to understand to be successful in this sphere of online marketing. They are not your average Internet users and certainly, they are not anything like the old school audience you set up your static, informational website for. The differences occur in how you communicate with them, the tools you use, the way you set-up your online presence, and in how you call them to action. You miss this, and you’ve missed the boat.
- Don’t pitch to them like a door-to-door salesman. This will not work. Direct, hard sale marketing will not only not work, you could actually take several steps backwards by turning them off to you entirely. Sales pitches will always come into play - after all, your marketing efforts should generate revenues. The way and timing of the pitch is very important in social media marketing.
- Don’t give them static content and expect them to do cartwheels. The very nature of social media marketing is dynamic. You can’t offer an ebook (by the way, so last year…) and direct social media marketing traffic and expect your conversions for sign-up to go through the roof. Use a audio mini-course (same content different format) or even a video. Getting the social media marketing traffic to your site will simply not do, if your site is not ready for that traffic — on their terms.
- Make sure your site is social media marketing traffic ready. Same concept as above, but so many more things are important here. If your navigation says “Home, Services, Products, About Us, Contact Us, Free Resources” — your definitely missing the boat. You have to offer so much more to your social media marketing traffic. Interaction, valuable content and resources that actually do more than pitch to them, engagement, and relationship — all are necessary to ensure your social media traffic is worth the effort it takes to get them there.

This Blog was right on target. Kudos to the writer. I think that the only true way for any of us to really reach our business goals, and goals in life for that matter, is by coming together as community and helping one another. The power of community is remarkable. By being part of one that consistently contributes information to one another you multiply your efforts by tenfold. The saying it “ it takes a village” applies to more than just raising children. I for one love nothing more than to help someone get one step closer to reaching their dreams. It gives me a sense of contribution that makes feel OK about staying up long hours day and night researching the latest techniques and tricks to have a successful business and draw people to it.
