Wordpress and Google Friend Connect for Comments Issue

by WebSuccessDiva · View Comments

If you’ve installed Google Friend Connect for Comments on your Wordpress blog (2.7.1 or above), you might want to browse over to a single post page (like this one Google Reader to Share Across Social Web). There is apparently an issue with all single post pages automatically refreshing on posts where the user has been automatically logged into Google Friend Connect. The pages refresh over and over and over, in a never-ending cycle. Annoying to say the least. There are also several client blogs for the Impact Team that are experiencing the same issues.

GFC for Comments Issue Causes

Our team has currently ruled out the possibility of plugin conflicts causing the issue. While we can not vouch for all plugins, we have installed and experience with over 60 and none of these seem to be causing the refreshing issue.

We’ve also ruled out theme issues, regarding Thesis Theme and Studio Press themes.

We have not been able to rule out a conflict being caused by Wordpress 2.8.4. Although anectdotal, we can say that issues with Google Friend Connect started appearing after implementing the 2.8.4 upgrade.

In the interest of avoiding the conflict, we’ve opted for simply removing the plugin until we can isolate the cause.

Just a heads up, for those less tech savvy — if you experience this problem, simply deactivate the GFC for Comments plugin and you’ll be all good :-)
