Twitter Lists Frenzy

by WebSuccessDiva · View Comments

TwitterTwitter lists have hit the social web … and if you’ve missed that, you really need to get out more :-) Lists are finally out and people are running around like chickens with their heads cut off to build them and promote them. It’s like a freakin’ gold rush out there. Applications are making a mad dash to integrate Twitter lists in a compelling way while sites are now popping up around them too.

Everyone has their take, the social media “gurus” are rampant and marketers are besides themselves with orgasmic joy, it’s like someone landed on the darn moon. What does it all really mean? I guess it depends on your perspective. Whatever its worth, here’s my perspective on Twitter lists.

My Gut Reaction

As with anything on the social web, lists will either become an opportunity of real value or another pile of crap technology that marketers use to group, self-promote, and p*ss match about who’s who and what’s what.

Now, with that said, I do believe lists have value. Real value. I see lists as another step in the direction of social colonization and personalization, listed as trends in the future of the social web. I see businesses, thought leaders, non-profits, and ministries providing real, useful value and community connectedness to the communities they serve.

Then again, I also think a lot of what Twitter lists have to offer, has already been around for those of use who are tech-geeky. The only difference is now, these features are legit, easily sharable like on Listorious, and part of Twitter API, which opens them up to some seriously cool integration.

  • This is a great blog! I would really like to keep reading your blogs. Cant wait for the next post. Good blogs are hard to find!
  • I don't know about you, but since Lists were launched, I have unfollowed tweeps from the stream and followed them on carefully-plotted lists that I refine by additions and subtractions often. Lists increase my productivity.
  • Lists are definitely increasing my productivity, and managing them has become a daily thing for me. My goal in 2010 is better, focused relationships :-) I completely agree :-)
  • Twitter lists are a great thing! I have noticed my clicks have skyrocketed since this feature got added to Twitter!
  • I've noticed the same, I'm definitely in love with lists too :-)
  • It seems like this is a good addition that allows good profiles to rise up and spammy things that no one wants to follow to sink. I'm sure it will also cause alot of fake profiles interlinking and seo spam as well.
  • Yeah I agree twitter lists are very valuable especially for B2B. Most cutting edge companies that have overhead nowadays have twitter accounts, and if you can get this information as a list especially organized by industry you now have a group of people that you can market to directly. It is pretty awesome, in this sense you can add them all as friends and then once you have their attention release whatever it is that you are promoting. This will result in success.

Yes, i have personally seen twitter as a marketing tool for most of the organizations using it very effectively... apart from this, Twitter has also been more friendly and thus a lot of discussions which happen are also great to hear...
