Most social media experts will tell you, that your small business absolutely needs to be on Twitter (as well as a host of other sites).  The perspective is always that, you NEED this, you NEEd that.  What this does to a small business owner can often set them up for failure from the start.  In a post by B.L. Ochman, she takes the opposite perspective on business and Twitter, giving very legitimate reasons you should NOT be on Twitter as a business.
