Great stuff this past week, across the Net, that I highly recommend you take a look at…
Blogging
What do you do when you have a commercial link in a valid blog comment? This post explores that question and provides options for dealing with a pesky part of blog comments.
Social Internet Marketing Tools and News
Google Wave is making a splash, Jeremiah Owyang has a great summary of what’s coming out from Google, their Wave. It’s a collaboration project from Google that might evolve into a total collaboration tool, that goes far beyond enterprise use. It’s definitely something worth looking at to understand where Web 3.0/4.0 technology is heading.
Here’s a good look from Mashable about Google Wave
One of the latest tools created to help you manage the social media stream is PeopleBrowsr, and this one actually has promise. There are many cool features, including export of individual stacks, integration with most major social media sites, and more. It’s now my new tool and I’m loving it more and more, as I dig deeper into it’s features. Check out my review of PeopleBrowsr
Great, great post from Danny Brown about the idea that when you take the focus on yourself, your services, your products, you just might achieve more — by focusing NOT on yourself, but on your market… their needs, their stories…
Many businesses and solo-professionals have been enjoying a social media high, diving deep into the trenches — forgetting and often neglecting the proven online marketing strategies that work well beyond social media. Chris Brogan has an excellent post to this tone, it’s time to get back to our desks and work.
I had a post that was pretty popular, and got some people thinking … is your sales funnel aligned with your market’s sales cycle? This is a big question that many need to consider, because if they aren’t you’re losing more revenue than you can imagine.
General Social Media Stuff
A look at the role of a community manager, in a great post looking at the 15 essential roles of a community manager — if you’re a solo-professional, this means you!
A good look at why messages aren’t enough from Amber Cadabra — an important post for everyone to read, especially if you’re using social media. It’s just not enough anymore to broadcast and publish your messaging, you’ve got to take it to the next level of providing your market with an invaluable experience. Good stuff.
Facebook and Social Networking
John Jantsch of Duct Tap Marketing, shares a great video and post about how to add anchor text to your links in your LinkedIn profiles. As I’ve always said, you want to take every advantage at optimizing your profiles, anchor text (the keywords used in a link) are an important part of that.
There’s some really cool stuff going on over at Facebook, Addidas has added a “your area” tab that takes you to news and such by world region — it would definitely be cooler if they could get it down by state and small geographic areas. But, it’s definitely a start and Addidas is showing that businesses can use Facebook in smart ways.
Facebook Pages Versus Groups, is a great question that Mashable discusses in a great look at the major differences between the two –especially from the businesses perspective. You’ll understand why and how to use either, hopefully matched up to your goals.
There was big news about the older generations coming onto Facebook, recent statistics are showing that yes, they went to Facebook, but they are not sticking around. Speculation from Mashable and others says that they aren’t “getting it” — what’s more important to know is that you have to really understand your audience beyond quick stats to engage them for the long-term.
Twitter and Microblogging
We all know to optimize our social media profiles, Facebook, Twitter, and the like. There’s speculation coming that Twitter profiles have now lost PageRank from Google, here’s a good look at what’s being said and whether it really matters to you. I say, always optimize, regardless of the value each profile has in Google – the online world goes far beyond Google. Full story…
Great summary of the five ways businesses are using Twitter for marketing, great summary to look at if you’re new to Twitter or thinking of new ways to use Twitter.
Twitter’s Unspoken 50/50 Rule is a great, short post about the discussion of whether to auto-follow or not to auto-follow, from the perspective of two experts who both take a different stance. The debate has always been, is it really authentic to auto anything in social media — my response is you have to deal with scalability and portions that are not key to building a direct relationship, you may want to consider.
Just for Fun…
This is really just for fun, and to highlight the wonderful, insane side of human nature — Social Media Tattoos. (I know, people actually do that?)
