Reciprocal links are dead … catch up!
January 23, 2008 · Internet Marketing
My biggest pet peeve? By far, emails coming in from across the globe (and might I mention from experts and beginners) requesting a reciprocal link — explaining to me the many search engine optimization and traffic benefits that I could enjoy if I linked to a website mall that specializes in jewelry???!!!
Some things, I eloquently point out in my response:
- Why on earth would you email an expert online marketer and try to pitch SEO 101 information from the 90’s?
- Why in haiti would I (an online marketer with no association to anything even remotely related to jewelry) take the time out of my busy day to link with someone not related to my content/subject matter? I might as well use a damn link farm and then put a link to each farm I use on my home page — that’s basically what a not relevant reciprocal link is — crap.
- And who the heck cares if your Google Page Rank is a 4… golly… doesn’t anyone realize Google Page Rank is more of an analytical tool rather than something that actually matters to anyone?
With that said, listen… check your point of contact… do you really want to send this request to a veteran in online marketing? Geesh… And a quick tip, save yourself some time and invest in real seo and online marketing strategies
