Google has introduced another feature that has many experts within the SEO industry talking, the “new” Google Personal Profiles. Let me clarify, the personal profiles are not so new — I’ve had mine for some time. What makes it interesting is that they are now showing up in prominent places within search results. This is just another step Google is taking towards universal, more personalized search.
So what’s the point? Well, it’s another place for you to aggregate your online presence, and get the benefit of placing a big part of your personal or professional brand in prominent search results. So now, instead of just getting search results on your name, users will get results for all relevant personal profiles.
There are obviously some “worries” that come up when looking at what Google could do with all the personal information on these profiles. As Felicia Day on FastCompany points out — yes, Google could use all this information for data mining and targeted advertising. But, if you look on the bright side, its also possible that Google will use the information placed on personal profiles to cross-reference and aggregate your online presence for you.
Either way the search results and ability to have a prominent placement in Google results, based on your name, are great potential for you. If you have a GMail or any Google account, you have a personal profile that is just waiting to be filled out.

Here’s a look at what your profile could look like…

My suggestion is that you dig in, get your personal profile up, and see what it does for you.
