When building your Wordpress blog, there are general settings you’ll want to be mindful of. These settings, as part of the core functions offered by Wordpress, will help ensure your blog is running smoothly. While not detrimental if you’ve missed these settings, they are definitely one’s you’ll want to take a look at before launching your new blog.
General Settings in Wordpress
General Settings: Blog Title and tagline settings, but you’ll likely want to use an SEO friendly plugin like All In One SEO to further customize this information. You can also set up your blog’s timezone and date/time settings here.
Writing Settings: These settings deal with what happens when you create content, including formatting, remote publishing, and email publishing are all available through Wordpress.
Reading Settings: These settings have to do with what people see on your home page and as a subscriber to your RSS feed.
Discussion Settings: These settings deal with the core Wordpress comment system. You’ll want to set these in general, but you should consider using the Disqus comment system because of its easy social media integration.
Media Settings: Through these settings you can determine your standard image sizes and media embed settings.
Privacy Settings: While building your blog you have the option of completely blocking search engines, so that your “work in progress” doesn’t reflect in search engine caches.
Permalink Settings: The most important setting you can setup for SEO. If you’ve already set this up, do NOT change it.
Miscellaneous Settings: These settings deal with the location of uploaded files and how your uploads are organized.
