You must backup your Wordpress blog database. There is no way around it, if you don’t want to take the chance of losing everything you’ve invested in your blog — content, plugins, settings, and comments. Nothing can be rebuilt if you do not have a regularly scheduled backup of your blog. Think a crash or hack won’t happen to you? Consider this… The cost of not being prepared is far heavier than learning the 2 minute process offered by your hosting provider and/or backup plugin for Wordpress. No techie skills required.
Two Options to Backup Wordpress Database
First, most if not all hosting services provide a means for backing up your databases. If you’re in doubt, you can always call your hosting customer service and they should (if they are any good) walk you through the process. We use GoDaddy services for everything domain and hosting related — with GoDaddy the backup process is literally a 3 step process.
Second, you can use the WP DB Backup plugin. The DB Backup Wordpress plugin allows you to manually backup your entire Wordpress database or parts of it. As well, you can set it up to backup automatically on a schedule.

We currently have WP DB Backup Plugin scheduled to do daily database backups. In addition, we manually backup through GoDaddy hosting every Sunday. Both files we house in separate places — so as never to be caught off guard.
