Smart Marketing: Disqus Comment System

View Comments

Comments and discussions on your blog are the lifeblood of building real community, which leads to loyal readership. Hands down, the best comment system to add to your Wordpress blog is Disqus.  Disqus will allow you to easily integrate social media connections, video comments, and much more – taking your comment system into overdrive increasing sharing capabilities, comment volume, and quality of the comments you receive.

You can easily add Disqus to your Wordpress blog, with the addition of a simple plugin that basically installs itself :-)

  • I found Disqus is a good and easy to use blog commenting system and I am also using Disqus. I love it ! Very helpful and user-friendly ! Thanks for the review.

I completely agree, it has drawbacks Good video
  • Disqus is the top commenting platform in my opinion. Not only is Facebook Connect integration nice but allowing users to also use their Twitter accounts to leave comments is awesome...Disqus is great
  • I completely agree, it has drawbacks (as all do) but for ease of installation and its integration with Facebook and Twitter, I'd say its top notch :-)
  • Disqus is definitely a great system, Maria, and probably the best 3rd-party option. However, it does have some drawbacks which may put people off:

    * No-follow. Unless they've recently changed their set-up, all Disqus comments are no-follow. Some people might prefer this from a spam point of view, but I think it's a nice gesture to offer a do-follow link back to a commenter's blog or website.

    * Limited mobile commenting. I use a BlackBerry a lot to browse blogs when traveling. I also like to comment. Unfortunately, Disqus doesn't let you comment from a mobile (at least, not a BlackBerry, it may be different for other units). Considering around 70% of social web browsing is by mobile, this seems a bit of an oversight.

    * The Social Media Reactions. I lost count the amount of times a spam or porn comment that had no bearing on my post whatsoever turned up in the Reaction section. The filter seems a bit haphazard, and obviously on a corporate blog this could be an issue.

    * Integration to WordPress. If you have threaded comments set up on Disqus, and you decide to go back to the standard WordPress comment system, your threaded conversations don't carry over. They become all single comments, which can get pretty confusing on multi-comment posts! :)

And then there's the main issue that you're basically handing over your comments to a third-party. If they have issues with the servers (which has happened), comments can disappear or hang, and then not reappear when the issue's resolved.

Now... despite all of the above, like I say I do like the system, at least from a 3rd-party point of view. But for control and integration, I think I prefer the standard WordPress options. Of course, Disqus has indicated a big upgrade is due, so who knows? ;-)
  • Great input Danny! I'm thinking Disqus has heard alot of what you've said from others and may be listening, we'll see on the next update :-)
