Cross Blog Conversations are a big key to Blog Marketing!
April 4, 2008 · Social Media Marketing
One of my all-time favorite bloggers, Lynn Terry, shares yet another great post that goes along with my whole blog marketing theme, and how to market your blog the right way. The funny thing is, most expert bloggers, won’t share the real deal tips, without charging an arm and a leg for their wisdom. Terry is a woman after my own heart - believing in the power of helping other people achieve, really helps you achieve. She’s a great Internet Marketer, and I encourage all my readers to consider this valuable tip, provided by Lynn:
Cross blog conversations is similar to “conversating” in the blog comments of a post you recently read. You know, where you ask questions or make comments, the blogger responds. Except in this case, you’re actually inviting them in a blog-to-blog conversation. Like Lynn, I typically start by posting a comment or start of a conversation on my blog, link to the bloggers blog post I’m referring to (or even their home page), they (with most blog software platforms) will be notified of that link — your hope is they respond and you’ve got yourself a bona-fide cross blog conversation.
But, as Lynn pointed out, remember — form a “relationship” before that. It’s like cold-calling, if they know you and recognize you, your chances at success are much better. Comment on their blog, show your interest, and ease your way in, with purposeful and genuine sharing.
The Diva Team has been using this strategy for about 6 months and we can definately report a much quicker building of back links, cross blog traffic (traffic sharing) and even a large jump in blog subscribers, as a result of these efforts.
Lynn, your a doll — got any good advice for newbies on how to deal with rejection? Our stance is to leave it and move on, or engage further. But I’ve seen some people actually delete the cross-blog-convo-post… Thoughts?
Read Lynn’s post here on Blog Cross Conversations, it’s a great tool in your blog marketing arsenal.

Thank you for the kind words, Marie
As for “rejection”, I simply leave the posts. Here are a couple of things you can do to avoid a CBC post getting ignored:
- Create a conversation you know the subject is currently interested in. Continue a thread from their own blog topics, for example.
- Link directly to a related post on their blog, in addition to the main page. This will get their attention as a backlink in the dashboard, and also as a trackback on an individual post.
- Make sure your question is obvious.
- Send them a short email and let them know that you’ve posted a question that is specifically for them, and that you’d love to see a reply to it at ___.com (their blog)
Best,
Lynn Terry
