by Maria Reyes-McDavis

aBloggersUniteBloggers Unite has revamped it’s online presence and expanded its reach — to help leverage the power of the blogosphere to “make the world a better place.” This time around, bloggers can Unite for many different causes and those interested, can create events for bloggers to participate in.

Bloggers Unite is the brainchild of Antony Berkman, CEO of BlogCatalog.com, back in 2007 –

On July 18th 2007 the Donor Awareness Campaign became the very first attempt at using the blogoshere to collectively spread the word about a topic for the good of mandkind. Seven campaigns and a year and a half later bloggersunite.org was launched to help spread the word even further.

Today, Bloggers Unite has grown up into an impressive way to create awareness, leveraging the power of all those who contribute daily to the blogosphere…

My entire network of blogs will be participating in several events that matter most to me, my family, and the ones I love.

World Autism Awareness DayWorld Autism Awareness Day – April 02, 2009

My youngest son, “little man” is a vibrant and wonderful reminder that Autism affects families on a global scale, like no other childhood disease or disorder. I will blog on this day, in honor of my son, who reminds me just how blessed we all are to live in a world we understand and embrace.

International Literacy DayInternational Literacy Day – September 8, 2009

September 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO on November 17, 1965. It was first celebrated in 1966. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. Some 774 million adults lack minimum literacy skills; one in five adults is still not literate and two-thirds of them are women; 72.1 million children are out-of-school and many more attend irregularly or drop out.

International Day PovertyInternational Day for the Eradication of Poverty – October 17, 2009

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is celebrated every year on October 17 throughout the world. It was officially recognised by the United Nations in 1992, but the first commemoration of the event took place in Paris, France, in 1987 when 100,000 people gathered on the Human Rights and Liberties Plaza at the Trocadéro to honour victims of poverty, hunger, violence and fear.

World AIDS DayWorld AIDS Day – December 1, 2009

On December 1st, individuals and organizations will recognize World AIDS Day. This year’s theme is leadership – from all sectors, including government, but also leaders among individuals and families, communities, non-profits and other organizations. The question is not should you participate, but how can you? Both NIDA and AIDS.gov recognize the leadership of Bloggers Unite and invite bloggers to join them in their mission to prevent and stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
