Answers to some quick online marketing questions…

January 22, 2008 · Internet Marketing

I recieve hundreds of emails a week from my clients, friends’ clients, and my avid readers. So, I thought I’d cover some of the questions I’ve received in the month of January, all related to various aspects of online marketing. So, these are my thoughts:

  • What can you expect to pay for maintenance SEO work and what do they do? Okay, well, let’s get some things straight first. Chances are your referring to those SEO companies that offer the “get-you-listed-tomorrow” for $19.99 a month plans right? You can count these out. Real, organic, GOOD SEO doesn’t come in a nifty little package - and certainly not for that price. Get real. So maybe we should cover what good SEO is:
    • Good, solid SEO is about getting organic rankings with search engines. Building a solid foundation for long-term traffic comes over time, with a total strategy that focuses around your keyword research, content, and online network. Yes, you can get and use black hat tricks, or strive for a massive amount of traffic - Good SEO will build qualified traffic that brings benefits across all of your online marketing tools.  <!– Online Marketing Questions Answered.  Read More … –>
  • What the heck is Social Media marketing? A very nifty term to coin the so-called “new” movements in online marketing. Actually, the technologies have been around forever, its the form that they’ve recently taken has a social driver that pushes marketing into engaging conversations with your audience. In other words, we’ve had audio and video online for quite some time. Now, we can build entire communities around them. Social Media marketing includes social networking sites (think MySpace, Facebook, Etc.), social bookmarking sites (think Digg, StumbleUpon, Etc.), social media sites (think YouTube, Revver, Etc.), and all the other stuff (think Twitter, Squidoo, Etc.).
  • What can social media marketing do for you? It can cost you alot of money and time, if you don’t know what your doing. Its not a matter of opening a thousand-and-one profiles at these sites, hoping the traffic will come. Using the right tools, in the right combination, depending on your online marketing goals - can make social media marketing a very valuable tool that will actually contribute to increasing the results of most other online marketing tools. Examples include quality links for SEO purposes, building online expert status, initiating marketing funnel conversations, and many more. The problem comes from an ever-evolving technology that few really know how to use effectively.
  • Who can/should use social media marketing? The answer to this question really lies in who your audience is and what your online marketing goals are. Social media marketing, sounds very groovy, but its not for every situation. Your audience may not be apt within the social media environment, your goals may not require that type of conversational tone.

The emails keep coming in, so I’ll keep posting :-)

To Your Success,

Maria Reyes-McDavis
