12 for 12k, the brainchild of one of my favorite social media bloggers Danny Brown, is an excellent effort at using social media for social good to benefit charities all over the world. I’m pleased to have joined Danny and others Monday as a blog partner to help spread the word about their efforts and the charities chosen.
Here’s the low-down on what it’s all about:
The 12for12k Challenge is the combination of social media and fund-raising that aims to change the lives of millions worldwide. Its aim is to raise a minimum of $144,000 for 12 charities over the course of 2009, with a new charity being supported every month. All proceeds raised go directly to the chosen charities.
What I like about the project:
First and foremost, I’m a big fan of businesses, bloggers, and those of us who have the ability to spread the word through our little corner of influence — pitching in to make the world a better place. I do believe we all have a responsibility, when given a voice, to speak about things that matter, to help others.
Second, being a social marketing junkie, I love the way Danny has setup this amazing project — he’s truly a thought leader in social marketing and social media for good. Everyone in the relationship, all stakeholders so to speak, are clearly taken into account — a true win-win situation.
- Bloggers benefit by participating in a good cause that will increase their visibility and blog promotion.
- Charities benefit from the raised funds and online visibility through the bloggers.
They’ve already raised over $18,000 dollars for some amazing charities… how can you not like that.
May’s Charity of Choice, Hospice of Peel
Hospice of Peel is a special charity for anyone who’s gone through losing a loved one…
The philosophy of the hospice is clear – to offer the compassionate care to those living with a terminal illness, to live as full, active and most importantly independent a life for as long as possible. While 95% of Canadians wish to die at home, as many as 75% die in a hospital or other institution. Hospice of Peel aims to change that with their support services. Read more…
